In 2018, God gave the vision to the EI Uganda team to join Him in raising up the next generation of the Church in Northern Uganda to become disciples who will make disciples all nations. Since then, we have been following His lead to cultivate God’s heart for all nations among the church leaders and churches that we work with in our discipleship ministries and other projects.
We are currently seeing the first fruits of our labour in discipling, casting vision, and raising awareness. Two missionary families from Pader have been sent to Muslim people groups in the West Nile region of Uganda. Some churches have become convicted to start supporting other Ugandan missionaries financially and have attended training in how to send well. More believers and churches have begun praying for the unreached. And still many more have testified that their members have become much more active in sharing Christ with those around them.
As churches become aware of their responsibility in God’s global mission, we have identified a very large gap in training available for the growing number of people who desire to be sent to minister cross-culturally to least-reached people groups. Apart from two other organizations that do very small internship programs with 1-2 missionaries at a time, we are unaware of any organized effort to train cross-cultural missionaries in all of Northern Uganda. The SEND Centre will help to fill this very large gap.
Two categories of discipleship training will be offered at the SEND Centre. The first category is the ongoing discipleship short intensive trainings that are currently being offered by Emmanuel International. These are typically 3-5 days in length, held periodically throughout the year, whereby “reliable men [and women] who are able to train others” are brought to learn how to multiply discipleship in their communities, through Sunday school training, follow-up with new believers, oral Bible storying training, and missions awareness courses. Currently, these trainings are being held in our multipurpose hall, and participants sleep on mattresses on the floor. When the SEND Centre is complete, they will be able to sleep comfortably in a fully equipped dormitory with adequate bathing facilities.
The second category will be residential cross-cultural missions training, whereby prospective missionaries will be sent by their churches to the SEND Centre for a period of approximately 6 months. During their stay at the SEND Centre, the prospective missionaries will undergo intensive life-on-life discipleship in community with one another and African facilitators who are experienced in cross-cultural missions. In addition, they will work through a curriculum complete with training in Bible interpretation, evangelism and discipleship skills, cross-cultural interpersonal skills, principles of support raising, language acquisition methods, trauma healing, and more. For married couples, we will also provide martial and family counselling.
Due to the two kinds of training programs that will run concurrently, we have devised a training campus with different types of accommodation available, which can be used for a mixture of singles attending short-term intensives, as well as both singles, families, and facilitators participating in the residential cross-cultural missions training.
In addition to the flexible accommodations, the campus will also include the following: a two-classroom block; an administration block with offices, meeting room, and computer lab/library; outdoor shaded meeting areas; sports facilities, including a soccer field and volleyball court; and a small playground for missionary families who come to stay with children. The site layout also reserves space for the future construction of a dedicated facilitator accommodation and a multipurpose hall.

We thank you for your interest in learning about the vision behind the SEND Centre. We are convinced that this is a historic time for the Church in East Africa as it awakens and takes up its place in carrying the gospel forth to tribes and peoples yet unreached. You can be part of raising up the next generation of Ugandan disciples who make disciples of all nations. We invite you to prayerfully consider making a Kingdom investment in the SEND Centre. And we pray that whatever you are able to generously give to God’s work, whether in Northern Uganda or elsewhere as the Lord leads you, that you will experience what the Lord has promised in 2 Corinthians 9:10-11:
Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
